Two record sales years in a row for Pakistan's Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) in calendar year 2021 demonstrate PSMC's dominance in the country's automobile sector. With more than 15,500 units shipped in December, PSMC has broken its previous monthly record of more than 15,200 units delivered in July 2021.

According to official data, both milestones were achieved because of Suzuki Alto's phenomenal sales. PSMC sold 9,195 Altos in December 2021, making it the best-selling vehicle of the year. This represents a 280 percent increase over the 2,420 units sold in November 2021.

The Alto has also been named the best-selling car of the year for the calendar year of 2021, with 53,887 units sold.

Success is due to the following:

There is a high demand for supermini hatchbacks in Pakistan, yet a dearth of options exists. An argument can be made that Alto has two competitors, namely, the United Bravo and the Prince Pearl, but so far, the opinions are divided about their quality.

Although Alto isn't exactly a champion in terms of quality, it has the advantage of being easy to purchase and maintain because of PSMC's nationwide network of dealerships.

Aside from imported Kei vehicles, there is currently no locally built supermini that can be regarded a good value for the money. However, as a result of the import limitations imposed by the government, those too have become prohibitively expensive.

PSMC's dominance in Pakistan's Kei car market is unlikely to change unless a better value proposition emerges.
