Dil Guman Tha Gumaniyan thay hum
haan miyan dastaniyan thay hum
ham sune aur sunaye jaate thay
raat bhar ki kahaniyan thay hum
jaane ham kis ki bo-ud ka thay saboot

jaane kis ki nishaniyan thay hum

chhorte kyun na hum zameen apnī

aḳhirash asmaniyan thay hum

zarra bhar bhī na thi numud apni

aur phir bhī jahaniyan thay hum

hum na thay ek aan ke bhi magar

javedan javidaniyan thay hum

rose ik ran tha tir-o-tarkash bin
