Daayam pada hua tere dar par nahin hun main,

Daayam pada hua tere dar par nahin hun main,
khaak aisi zindagi pe ki patthar nahin hun main.

Kyon gardish-e-mudaam se ghabra na jaaye dil,
insaan hun pyaala-o-saaghar nahin hun main.

Yaa rab zamana mujh ko mitaata hai kis liye,
lauh-e-jahaan pe harf-e-mukarrar nahin hun main.

Had chaahiye sazaa mein uqoobat ke waaste,
aakhir gunaahgaar hun kaafir nahin hun main.

Kis waaste azeez nahin jaante mujhe,
laal-o-zumurrud-o-zar-o-gauhar nahin hun main.

Rakhte ho tum kadam meri aankhon se kyon daregh,
rutbe mein mehr-o-maah se kamtar nahin hun main.

Karte ho mujh ko mana-e-kadam-bos kis liye,
kya aasmaan ke bhi baraabar nahin hun main.

Ghalib’ wazeefa-khwar ho do shaah ko dua,
woh din gaye ki kehte the naukar nahin hun main. !!
