Aye saaqi-e-mehwish ghum-e-dauraan nahin uthta,

Aye saaqi-e-mehwish ghum-e-dauraan nahin uthta,
darwesh ke hujre se ye mehmaan nahin uthta.

Kehte the ki hai baar-e-do-aalam bhi koi cheez,
dekha hai toh ab baar-e-garebaan nahin uthta.

Kya mere safeene hi ki dariya ko khatak thi,
kya baat hai ab kyon koi toofaan nahin uthta.

Kis naqsh-e-qadam par hai jhuka roz-e-azal se,
kis weham mein sajde se bayabaan nahin uthta.

Be-himmat-e-mardaana nasaafat nahin kaTti,
be-azm-e-musammam qadam aasaan nahin uthta.

Yun uthti hain angdaai ko woh marmarin baanhen,
jaise ki ‘adam takht-e-sulaimaan nahin uthta. !!
