Aayi hai ab yaad kya raat ik beete saal ki,

Aayi hai ab yaad kya raat ik beete saal ki,
Yehi havaa thi baagh mei yehi sadaa gharriyaal ki,
Mehak ajab si ho gayi parre parre sanduuq mei,
Rangat pheeki parr gayi resham ke ruumaal ki,
Shehr mei ddar tha maut ka chaand ki chauthii raat ko,
Eeentton ki iss khohh mei dehshat thi bhaunchaal ki,
Shaam jhuki thi behr pr paagal ho kar rang se,
Yaa tasveer thi khawb mei mere kisi khayaal ki,
Umr ke saath ajeeb sa ban jaata hai aadmi,
Haalat dekh ke dukh hua aaj uss parii-jamaal ki,
Dekh ke mujh ko ghaur se phir woh chup se ho gaye,
Dil main khalish hai aaj tak iss an-kahe sawaal ki..
