Laptops in Pakistan are expected to rise in price in the near future.

With the worldwide shortage of semiconductors persisting, laptops and personal computers in Pakistan are expected to rise in price. In accordance with the supplementary finance bill 2021, the government would impose a 17.5% sales tax on all computers.

Sales tax on imported and domestically produced computers would be excluded, thus laptops and desktops would be taxed at a 17 percent rate.

A supplementary finance bill for 2021 will also remove the appropriate firms from the Sales Tax Act 1990's Exemption Schedule. Once the semiconductor shortage is remedied, the tax may be reduced.
